How to quantify backlink quality in a way that properly rewards higher-DR links. Since DR operates on a logarithmic scale, a linear points system undervalues high-authority links. This episode shares a scoring sheet to assign and track goals for your outreach team members more accurately.

### Quantifying Backlinks Quality — The Bare Minimum One reason to move away from a simple link-count metric: the DR range of 1–100 is **not a linear scale — it's logarithmic**. Earning a DR70 link is exponentially harder than a DR30, so your scoring system should reflect that. This system grants significantly more points to higher-DR links, which makes for fairer goal-setting and rewards for your outreach team. **Copy our Google Sheet:** https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mr9CsQzRvE1rCk6equFHVPQZzg0m_CxHFut8RlNPyEQ/edit?usp=sharing **Related backlink type episodes:** - Type 1 Backlinks (S03E06) - Type 2 Backlinks (S03E07) - Type 3 Backlinks (S03E08)

[00:00] So I'm going to talk about a topic which might be slightly controversial or at least somewhat more complicated for the beginners and I think that some of the experts may have a bit of a different viewpoint points on this okay but uh hear me out and uh you know I think I think you will like what we are doing right so um we have an agency um where we do and our clients both care about the quality of the backlinks right [00:42] Uh as in you know what kind of websites are we getting them uh getting those backlinks and uh you know obviously what is the relevancy and so on right um but in some cases um what happens is that it it can be a bit difficult to sort of analyze the quality and to sort of um ensure that the team is on track uh and very much focused on earning those uh more valuable backups right so I mean obviously everyone cares about relevancy the more relevant the link is [01:22] The better it is a lot of the clients and we as well sometimes want to earn backlinks from more mainstream websites like you know think about forbes msn yahoo business.com readers digest canva all of these are you know websites that we have earned backlinks from and obviously you want to earn backlinks uh while ensuring that these links uh are not toxic uh in any uh sense right and then you also want to make sure that they they you know their link spam score um whatever method you [02:01] Use to make is low that these are real um and you know that these are sites which have high quality of backlinks uh they're not you know let's say linking to sites from five different dishes in one uh single blog post right and obviously you don't want those dreaded low quality uh private blog network backgrounds right so all of this all of that is kind of the default I mean that is something that all of us understand uh from the get go right um so we're not going to try to talk [02:42] About that let's assume that you have those bases covered already right so how do you analyze backlinks and you kind of earn links that have higher quality and um coming basically it's about coming up with a system for your team you know so coming up with a system for your team where they have a target you know so I mean obviously you can go about it like hey uh we just want your 50 plus backlinks and you are supposed to earn at least you know two or ten or whatever in a [03:14] Month right so that's one way of doing it and that might work for a lot of clients and so on a lot of agencies um we have a system which I'm going to show you by the way in a moment we have a system whereby we are um providing a base salary to our team members right so for most of these team members is based on an hourly rate uh for some lately we are doing it on a per page basis as well especially when it [03:47] Comes to harrow and on top of the base salary we are giving them uh a commission based on the um you know the the quality of those backlinks right so let me show you what um that means okay so let's say um we will we will inform that we will explain it to the team members that you know a DR backlink will earn them 499 points okay so if they earn a do follow backlink let's say forbes or msn or yahoo um which probably have a dn90 plus [04:27] Authority then they will straightaway get 499 points right similarly if they get like uh they are you know 50 to 59 back length and that's 260 points for the do follow backlinks and every team member is given a target so um they they are given a quarterly target of how many points they are supposed to earn and then they also they they are supposed to divide it into months and weeks and so on as well so that they can keep track of how many points they are supposed to earn right [04:56] And obviously the points that we are the goals that we have given them uh that's sorry I will just um silence my phone so um the goal the point school that we give our team it's you know it's corresponding to the to the point goals that points goal that is given to other team members and also the the points that we have to earn for a certain client right so for some clients we may have to earn let's say 2500 points per month for some it may be uh much more or [05:28] Much lesser than that right um so once the team members are earning battling so this assume that this is the so this is not an individuality membership it is more of like a project sheet right a template of it and I will I will ensure that I grant you a link to this sheet so that you can copy copy paste it and update it for your own so we may have a cycle uh where we have to earn points like let's say 2500 points uh in a month or six weeks or [05:59] And um in this case you can see that it's a you know the DR is 71 and you know for mention only and duplicate I believe at the time we had the system where you know if it's just a mention if it's just a brand mention then you know the team member doesn't get any points right um then if it's a 58 DR length and then you know they will earn a you know 260 points and so on and then you know if you have multiple teams for a single [06:26] Single project and you know you can you can divide those so we have three teams we have the nirvana team and the wizards team which work on harrow outreach and then uh for some clients uh we also have the file starters team which works on conventional outreach you know like think about guest posting and broken link building or resource page link building and so on right so then you you count the backlink you count the points for for all the backlinks and and that's basically how [06:58] We try to keep track of um the quality of backlinks remember like I said um this is this is after we have done the the rest of the bit about you know quality like ensuring it's a real website and you know it's it's relevant um um in case of harrow it's a bit harder to be too strict about the but uh in case of guest posting obviously it's um you know it's it's uh pretty much in our hands a hundred percent of the time what kind of sites [07:31] We are earning backlinks from and this is basically how we sort of try to quantify the backlinks quality so that our team has a quantifiable and measurable and a more specific target in terms of uh the sites that they are earning links from um and uh you know we might actually increase uh points for some of the higher DR links for for our team members going forward um but you know this is the basic uh process that we use uh let me know what you think about this [08:04] Or if you have a different system or if you have any critique or any feedback on this system that we have uh by the way if you are curious about what does link type 1 link type 2 and so on mean uh we already have done a podcast episode about that as well and I will I will include a link to that as well but uh this is pretty much it for this episode thank you so much and take care
