### Type 1 Backlinks: Link Attribute Types 1(a) Do-Follow Standard links that pass "link juice" / PageRank to the linked page. The default for most organic editorial links. 1(b) No Follow Links with the rel="nofollow" attribute. Google treats these as hints rather than directives (post-2019 update). Common in user-generated content, comment sections, and some sponsored placements. 1(c) Mention Only Brand or URL mentions that are not hyperlinked. No direct link equity passed, but valuable for brand awareness and potentially for entity recognition in search algorithms. 1(d) Sponsored / UGC Links tagged with rel="sponsored" (paid/advertorial placements) or rel="ugc" (user-generated content). Introduced by Google in 2019 alongside the "nofollow as hint" update. ### Related Episodes in This Series - Type 2 Backlinks (S03E07): https://youtu.be/ZDq9jZxK0lk - Type 3 Backlinks (S03E08): https://youtu.be/__UauayC64k

[00:00] Hi again uh this is your host say therefore najmal with another episode of the SIA business so as I mentioned uh in probably the previous episode that I'll be explaining how we classify uh backlinks uh according to their type right so there are various ways you can them by uh for instance one site I saw this morning I think they will classify them classifying uh you know backlinks according to like 24 different uh criteria and you know one of them was whether it's a webinar backlink or not [00:41] Okay so I'm not talking about that I'm talking about like larger buckets where everybody bucket has its own sort uh additional factors if that makes sense all right uh if it doesn't make sense then uh hopefully it will make sense in in just few seconds okay so um the three buckets that we have is link type 1 link type 2 link type 3 and basically we all of these to be you know we want an ideal answer for all of these okay so the ideal combination [01:12] Of this is when a link is do follow and it's contextual and it's uh original okay so now let me explain what that actually means all right so do follow means that um Google is uh basically not um you know Google is uh basically um considering that backlink when when they are analyzing my website okay so that's a do follow back link so for instance if uh yahoo.com has given me a backlink and it's a do follow back link then I'm basically getting you know the [01:47] The highest amount of SEO use from yahoo.com all right so that's a do follow backlink now other than that it can be a no follow backlink or it can be a sponsored slash ucg for all of these uh those uh we have used a plugin called uh no follow links so you can see that I have basically if you check where my mouse cursor is you will see that it's called strikeout no follow backlinks however recently we realized that at least in some cases it's not it's not really working [02:20] Uh accurately okay so I think there was one site called cloudbase.com and they have probably found some way to counteract this tool or maybe they're using I don't know javascript or something like that all right now let me give you an example of a no follow back link so if you open this forbes article you will see that the author has linked to my website with the anchor text digital marketing expert however you can see that the plugin I told you about has um you know uh made it just you know a [02:56] Strikethrough and also if I go to the the source you will see that um this backlink is no follow okay similarly remember I talked about ugc and sponsored so if it was ugc or sponsored then rather than no follow uh the the tag here would have been the tag here would have been excuse me uh ugc or you know um sponsor okay similarly um to to talk about the last type the the ugc one sorry the mentioned only one which we have yet to explain uh for linked bucket type number one [03:32] Uh I'm sorry so if I go here you will see that there is another one called mention only so mention only is simply when when there is no link to my website at all so obviously in this case you can see that there is a backlink but what some sites would do is that they would mention my name but or my website's name but if I try to click on my name or even the website it's not clickable so that's when it's mentioned only okay so for example if I go here to the [03:59] Search engine uh watch article uh you can see that my name is mentioned and they have also mentioned my website name however if I try to click on this there is nothing which is clickable okay so that's that's mentioned only in that case okay um and that's basically how um you know link type one bucket works and in the upcoming uh 102 podcast episode I will also explain link type 2 and length time 3 all right so thank you so much that's it for now thank you
